Project Impact

The beneficial impacts from these projects include:

• Reduction in public health risk associated with untreated wastewater discharges into drains, rivers and other water courses.
• Improvement of water quality in the major rivers (in these cases: Mausica, Manacal, Carapo, Arima and Caroni River).
• Overall improvement to the surrounding environment through the proper collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater that would have otherwise adversely impact the environment.

Some of the areas which would be impacted by these projects are:

• Malabar Catchment - Calvary Hill, Mausica/Olton Road, Cleaver Road/ Andrews Lane, O’Meara Road, Mt. Pleasant/ Maturita, Upper Pinto Road/ Gills View, Upper Malabar/ Tumpuna Road, Santa Rosa, Malabar, Peytonville/ Caparo and La Horquetta/Greenvale.
• San Fernando Catchment - Marabella, Tarouba/Cocoyea, Pleasantville, Vistabella, San Fernando, Ste. Madeline, Bel Air, Green Acres, Duncan Village, Union Hall, Retrench, La Romain, Palmiste and Sunkist.

Improvements in the quality of Wastewater Treatment Plant effluents will have a direct positive effect on our Water Treatment Plants. Such high water quality effluent, similar to what is produced at our Beetham Wastewater Treatment Plant, will also facilitate the recharge of the Caroni River. This will allow additional water to be treated at our Caroni Water Treatment Plant.
